2015 WALONG FILIPINA:Alay sa Manghahabi (Tribute to the Weaver) Romulo Hall, Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines, Washington D.C.

Liongoren Gallery in cooperation with HABI Philippine Textile Council presents 2015 Walong Filipina: Alay sa Manghahabi (Tribute to the Weaver) a collaborative art project between four visual artists and four weavers.  Since 1990 Liongoren Gallery, celebrates the lives and works of Filipinas through the exploration of various themes and issues close to the heart of the woman by mounting yearly Walong Filipina exhibit.  This year it pays homage to four remarkable women weavers who have sustained the craft through generations. It also marks Liongoren Gallery’s first art exhibit which focuses on Philippine indigenous weaves and is in line with its avowed objective to promote environmental concern and Filipino cultural heritage through the visual arts. Hopefully this will generate interest and patronage, revitalize our dying textile industry which is one of our revered cultural heritage. This will also translate in good livelihood opportunities for women.

The National Commission for Culture and Arts and Nooks Manufacturing International Corporation, the first producer of pina yarn which comes from hand scraped pineapple fiber and hand-picked cotton are providing invaluable help to this venture.
